How Frequent Is My Type
The Myers & Briggs Foundation

"It is up to each person to recognize his or her true preferences."
Isabel Briggs Myers

One of the common questions people ask after determining their type is: How frequent is my type? The table below shows estimates of the relative frequency of each of the sixteen types in the United States population.

Looking at this table, you can see the most common types across the bottom two rows and in the left two columns. The Total section shows the distribution along the four dichotomies. As you can see, the data suggest that those who prefer Sensing are more frequent in the population than those who prefer Intuition.

The estimated frequency table was compiled from a variety of MBTI® results from 1972 through 2002, including data banks at the Center for Applications of Psychological Type; CPP, Inc; and Stanford Research Institute (SRI).
