"Whether people first hear about the two kinds of perception and two kinds of judgment as children, high school students, parents or grandparents, the richer development of their own type can be a rewarding adventure for the rest of their lives."

Where to take the MBTI personality assessment instrument
Consultants, counselors, coaches, therapists and many other people with interests or training in psychology, human development, and social interaction may be qualified to administer the MBTI instrument, verify your MBTI type, and discuss your personality results one on one or in a group.

Take the Myers Briggs Type Indicator instrument

Several options are available for those who want to take the MBTI® instrument:

  • The MBTI assessment can be administered either online or with paper and pencil, usually through a qualified individual who has met specific professional requirements for interpreting the results of the instrument. For a list of qualified practitioners in your area, go to the APTi Referral Network.
  • The Center for Applications of Psychological Type, CAPT®, Inc., offers a program that begins with online administration of the MBTI instrument. A highly experienced, qualified professional interprets the results and follows up with an hour-long personalized phone consultation. Take the MBTI here. CAPT is a not-for-profit organization cofounded in 1975 by Isabel Briggs Myers, developer of the MBTI instrument.
  • The publisher of the MBTI® instrument, CPP, Inc., has developed an interactive online delivery system for taking the Indicator called MBTI® Complete. This approach allows for the verification of type preferences as the individual is answering questions. Because of the interactive nature of the system, person-to-person feedback from a qualified MBTI practitioner is not required. To take the MBTI® Complete, go to www.MBTIComplete.com

What to expect when you take the MBTI instrument:

  • You fill out a multiple choice questionnaire either in paper form or online. There are no right or wrong answers. The MBTI instrument is not a test. You select the answers that best fit for you.
  • Results are most often given in person or by phone through an interactive feedback discussion with a qualified practitioner. An interactive feedback discussion with a qualified MBTI practitioner allows for personal interpretation that enhances the understanding of MBTI results.
  • When taking MBTI Complete, the self-guided feedback system has been designed to help you understand and verify the accuracy of your results. A follow-up conversation with a professional is suggested but not essential.
  • Scored results come in the form of an MBTI Profile Report that is either delivered via the web or given to you in printed form. This report is confidential confidential and is treated accordingly by the professionals who deliver the report to you.

People who are qualified to administer the MBTI instrument are committed to using it in an ethical way, which includes protecting your confidentiality, showing you how to verify your type, giving feedback interactively, and presenting all types as valuable.

To learn how to become a qualified administrator of the MBTI instrument, go to Using Type as a Professional.
